Mantra

Little flower
Bleed out your petals
It’s okay to be nothing
The air will still catch you

Best Friend

You buy a home
It has 3 bedrooms
One for you, one for a kid, one for me when I visit
Or the second kid
Settling is dreaming in the ocean of a child’s laugh
A puppy’s greeting wiggle
Two pats on the butt at bedtime
A hand to hold at a funeral
I understand if the guest room is full
I’ll be nearby, old dreams at the ready

Time

Seeking the origin of time
I talk to the clock
Who looks on with pity
And asks for the time

Prometheus

Horsepowered world builders
Who excavate tunnels for the flowering apes
Show your innards
I’ll show mine
Rusted, churning bits of this and that
Thrusted together with uncaring precision
To fill what’s empty

Listen to my vibration and wake
Do you feel the pulse of pistons in the night sky?
Where steel is birthed
To live among gods and kings
This is infinity
A cycle of endings
Blink now; or be nothing

Caught

Okay one more time from the top

I found out
Doesn’t matter how
But it was John
Well not John exactly since he heard it from his pal Carl
Former pal really
After the whole incident with the check at the Italian restaurant downtown
Trattoria Josephine, dynamite place
What matters is I know
And that someone you trusted betrayed you
So now we can both feel like shit
Enjoy your birthday.

Earth Song

The earth will swallow your stories
Melted into rock among bones
Their echoes ring deep within the crust
Singing shape into our world

Couple on the Street

Hold my shaky hand
Let the youth pass
The lucky ones will end up
Right where we are
